Reminds me of my mother...I love her!
My family is in the follwoing locations this grand Father's Day:
Mom: Orlando, FLorida, in a condo on the beach with her friend Joan.
Dad: Australia, presumably the outback, working for John Deere.
My sister, Brother-I-L and Lainey are in South Dakota in the Black Hills.
Dorinda and I are bored in our prospective towns: Omaha, and StL
How did I get to be the boring one in the family?

Is anyone else bothered by the fact that the new Victoria Secret commercial is a limerick, but doesn't follow the proper rhyme pattern? It's really annoying. As if beautiful, (digitally altered) almost naked women weren't annoying enough- or disturbing enough, the girl can't even rhyme right!! Now does not rhyme with bra!! If I was a beautiful model-type girl, I would really hate that girl in the commercial for ruining my reputation as a beautifu, model-type SMART woman. Since I'm normal looking, and my breasts aren't disproportionatly gi-normous compared to my body, I'm just annoyed. hee hee.
One Hundred and One Days
Asne Sierstad writes about Iraq before, during and after the war with Iraq. I just started reading "During" and it hasn't gotten dengerous yet, but will soon. The "Before" section was enlightening. Saddam's government and life in Iraq was sraight out of the pages of 1981- all that government control and whatnot. It sounds miserable.
The book has been really helpful in showing me how to pray and has been shaping my opinion of the current war, which has morphed over the years since 2003 when I was student teaching in North Carolina. I remember the images, as I'm sure many of you do of Saddams statue being toppled and Iraqui's shaming him by beating the statue with their shoes (Which I didn't understand the significance of until I traveled to Egypt-the ultimate insult).
Like most Americans, I'm left with many emotions/thoughts about the war: impatience, outrage, hopelessness, confusion, hope, as well as thoughts and emotions about our government...I guess the same emotions followed by trust and distrust. Isn't it hard knowing who to trust? I would like to think that Bush isn't basically a terrorist, being disobedient to God's laws... but at the same time, I'm not satisfied with his actions. I trust that God is soverign, and Bush's leadership is part of God's soverign plan...After my trip to Egypt, I felt o.k. about our involvement in the Middle East because of how adamently the Sudanese beleived we (the US) were doing the right thing.
So, if I now am disalllusioned about the reasons we entered the war, when was the appropriate time to leave? When will the apprpriate time be? When will Iraqi's be completely responsible for their own peaceful existance in their own country. Who is left to trust? In their government, and I suppose for many here, in ours.
In conclusion, (am i writing an essay...?) I'm still confused and torn, but inquisitive and definately praying more, which can never be a bad thing.

As recommended by Renee Badenoch. It explains why I feel like throwing Harry off a bridge in book 5.
Just went to go see this with Morgan and Jill- I really needed a laugh, and I got one. I laughed so hard, I cried. and cried so hard my hair got wet...
A book review for Anne Lamott's Plan B: Further THoughts on Faith
"Lamott is one of the handful of contemporary Christian writers beloved by people who usually agree about very little..." -The Ney York Times Book Review
I beleive that Christians don't have to agree about everything, and that there's nothing wrong with people having differeing opinions, but to have this be the defining characteristic the New York TImes points out about contemporary Christianity makes me sad inside. It almost made me cry a little when I first read it.

Did I mention that not only am I sick, but I also smell. I should take a shower, but the throught of having to stand upright for 20 minutes makes my head spin. So, I apoligize to my roommates for being a big sick pile of bad smells. How exactly does one become a pile of smells? I have no idea, but that's what I am. I think my room smells like pinesol, sweat and barf- not the best combination. Now that I've been in the living room all day it probably smells too... sorry apartment family!

I stayed home today and am very glad I did. I'm not in as much pain as I was yesterday, but my temperature keeps fluctuating, hot, then cold and back again. I'm also not quite able to concentrate very well-which may not be very different from normal. It really messed up all of my lesson planning. I feel bad because my students have been stuck with a bunch of busy-work. Oh well, I have never been sick before, they'll get over it.
I suppose whatever I got was able to take hold in me more than normal because I have been running on empty. Last week I was pseudo staff for UNI as a group came down for City Lights. It was so great to see them, and be connected with Geri and Sherri for the week. It made me miss campus ministry, which of course makes me question teaching as my only job. Someday I will do the thing that makes me more alive, that uses my talents and giftings.
Well, only one more day of school before my Spring Break. I will head home to CF for a few days to see mom and dad, and hopefully many other CF friends.

So, a quick update to get the depressing news out of the way before I think of something witty to write about so make all my friends giggle.
1. My job: typical. about the same, no improvements. some students have actually become more annoying and I've realized that while I may be more alert when I'm cafinated, I'm much more ittirable. I will be very careful in the future when I consider comsuming one of those sugar-y coffee beverages before lunch. After lunch cafination is a whole other tale, when I have a diet pepsi at lunch (about once a month) I usually seem to have a great rest of the day, while when I have a cafinated coffee-drink during 3rd or 4th, I can hardly stand being in the room with my lovely 5th hour family who I usually delight in so much. OR, my 5th hour were possibly being little jerks and it has nothing to do with my level of alertness. I guess I was just awake enough to notice their jerk-like behavior.
2. I don't know where I"m living next year. I will have to get back to you all about that.
3. I've been really tired (reason for cafine consumption in the first place) and it's a tired that I can't shake. I have very little will to do all of the necesary tasks of life, like washing dishes. No desire what-so-ever. Laundry, I didn't really have anything to wear on Monday, and somehow I made my clothes stretch all week long. I guess I HAVE to do it tonight to get it out of the way.
4. Back to school, to echo Andrea, I haven't been doing as much grading as I should. I need to grade my freshmen's geography folders for the last 2 units. Good news here. I think I'm the farthest of any of the Geography teachers, we're cruisin' right along.
5. I think I want to make some Kool-Aid, but i'm too tired. I want to drink something sweet.
6. Something great: just when I needed it, Jesus sent my my old friend Rachel Danley- shoutout.
7. I"m tired of wirting, so I'm not going to finish whatever list I started. I'm going to watch "That 70's Show"
happy friday.
I saw this movie this weekend with Rachel Danley and Jill, it was a freakin' riot!!
Dorinda sent me this video because it reminds her of all the times mom tried to take a "nice" Christmas picture... hilarious! Enjoy!
I'm done with the TV/video fast. It's been good for my teaching- meaning that I've got almost all my grading done for the first three weeks of this semester. Right now I'm watching Gilmore Girls (season one) on my computer, all shrunk down in the corner while I type in the other. I forgot how distracting and addicting it is. So, I apologize in advance for sentence fragments, unfinished thoughts and any complete and utter nonsense that might be in this post.
I have to get stuff done for school, but I really don't want to. I did a lot of grading, and now I don't want to do anything else, which isn't too great, because I've got to actually plan what I'm going to do with my classes tomorrow. I have a general idea, but I still need to do the prep work.
I realize my journal probably is overcrowded with entries that mention Gilmore Girls, but I guess that's the way it is. So, with the whole TV/video fast over, I forget about my old schedule. so it's about 7:20 tonight before I realize that there's actually new episodes on- which I've missed a few, so I got to see the first episode I could actually respect in a long time...without knowing any of the details. It was nice to see characters that i recognized.
In other news, the weather, I really don't mind the cold. It has been kind of fun to wear lots of layers, have an excuse to keep a pot of hot water boiling at the Delmar place and curl up to watch GG (while grading papers, of course). I have a bit of the winter-nothing-seems-to-be-going-on blues, so I've got a little cabin fever- but that will all be cured because next weekend I've got big plans: I'm a chaperone at the winter formal at school (if they have one, as of today they've only sold 12 tickets...) I did it last year and it was really fun. It will be good to do it while I know more students and teachers. Last year I even got to dance during the electric slide- it's electric! Boogie, woogie woogie!
Now I really need to get off my computer, shut it off and get ready for tomorrow. I'm giving myself 30 minutes. We have a 90 minute class period tomorrow, which just might kill me, but we'll just have to deal.

18 days down with no TV, and most days i'm doing alright. I can't say that's always the case, overall, I've been pretty bored off and on, but there have been benefits, such as good conversations with roommates.
I'm exhausted, and finished this very tiny post after a long time on the internet preparing for school and chatting with my sister dorinda- what a trip! i need to get to sleep!!
oh, i thought of this yesterday or the day before and laughed to myself and thought I'd share it. Yep, it's another one of those, "i like my men" quotes.
I like my men like i like my wine, with fruity undertones...
ok, strange, yes, but i giggled to myself.
